Minnesota State Senator Nicole Mitchell announced that she would be resigning from her position in the senate after a jury found her guilty of burglary.
Mitchell broke into her stepmother's house, which her defense claimed was to conduct a wellness check on the woman (Mitchell says her stepmom has severe Alzheimer's).
But the body-cam footage paints a much different picture:
So here's the question:
Why would someone conducting a wellness-check dress up like cat woman?

For that matter, why would someone conducting a wellness check be crawling on the floor next to her stepmother's bed?
As it turns out, she was there to take some of her dad's things because her stepmother wouldn't let her have them, which she pretty much admitted to on the witness stand:
No wonder the jury found her guilty of first-degree burglary on July 18.
Needless to say, now that she's facing jail time, Senator Mitchell won't be able to continue her duties.
She made the following announcement via social media on July 25:
I am stepping down from my MN Senate seat today, but I cannot do so without expressing my gratitude.
Thank you to my family, friends, and constituents who shared with me the issues they care about and trusted me to work on their behalf. It has been a true honor to serve the state of Minnesota and the community I grew up in.
Governor Tim Walz will have to hold yet another special election (due to the murder of the speaker of the house and the recent death of a senator), any one of which could shift political power in the state. The house makeup is currently tied, and the Democrats only lead the state senate by one seat.
You know every time his aides walk in saying, "We're going to need to hold another special election," Walz has to be looking a little like this:
