How utterly surprising!

The Biden administration is considering forcing some migrant families who enter the country without authorization to remain near the border in Texas while awaiting asylum screening, effectively limiting their ability to travel within the United States, three U.S. officials told The Times.

The White House has reportedly been debating the idea "as a way to stem recent increases in the numbers of migrant families crossing the southern border."

You know what might be easier than letting them cross the southern border in the first place?

I guess it's too much to ask the federal government to try and secure the literal national border, so we have to be content with them trying to secure the Texas-Oklahoma one instead.

(I bet this has nothing to do with Texas Gov. Greg Abbott shuttling migrants to Chicago and NYC! Joe Biden wouldn't punish a whole state for making Democrats look bad, right??)

The government is reportedly considering the use of ankle bracelets to monitor illegal immigrant families; migrants will also be subject to "an asylum screening process to determine whether they could stay in the U.S. and proceed with their claims." If they fail those proceedings, "they'd be easier to deport because they'd be close to the border."

This is the kind of thing that generates sputtering, neurotic outrage from the Left. AOC would go nuclear over it. News networks would be running round-the-clock outrage features about it. Is the Biden administration really going to try that going into an election year?

I doubt it. Too risky. And risk is not in the Democratic playbook. They play it safe with conventional, awful policies. They're not going to deviate from any of them.

But don't worry! They're not going to try anything smart, either:

[T]he administration has thus far refused to revive the Trump- and Obama-era practice of detaining migrant families at the border.

"We have no plan to detain families," Mayorkas said in April.

So it's a lose-lose for everyone. Classic Biden.
