Thirteen years ago, David Strand of Rogers, Minnesota, gave his wife Mary a diamond ring for their 33rd anniversary. The ring was a little too big, and a few months later it fell off Mary's hand and was flushed down the toilet.
Mary recalled the moment it happened saying,
I'm watching this ring swirl. I dove for the ring, and it went down. It went down the drain.
At the time, David Strand ran a drain and sewer business and extensively searched for the ring, but to no avail. They assumed they would never see that ring again.
But in March of this year, a maintenance manager at the Rogers Wastewater Treatment Plant saw the ring sparkling in a vat of sludge and water.
He could tell it was the type of ring that would likely have sentimental value, so he started searching for the ring's rightful owners.
Hundreds of people sent in photos of lost rings, but the Strand's ring was easily identified even after 13 years of floating around in the wastewater system did a number on it.
