Trump was expected to plead not guilty to four felony charges stemming from his months-long bid to seize a second term despite losing the election to President Joe Biden. The charges, brought by special counsel Jack Smith and approved by a federal grand jury earlier this week, are: conspiracy to defraud the United States; conspiracy to deprive Americans of the right to a fair election process; conspiracy to obstruct Congress' proceedings on Jan. 6, 2021; and the carrying out of that obstruction effort.
Translation: They want to send Trump to prison for years on the allegation that he knew he'd lost the 2020 election and was trying to overturn it anyway... a case that requires seeing into Donald's head and would never hold up in any court of law not run by a hard-left activist judge.
We're not in a period of history like Henry VIII's court, where once-friends of the crown like Cromwell and More were executed on the orders of the king. Instead, this feels a bit more like his daughter Bloody Mary's rule, where anyone who doesn't bow to the state religion is culled, all the reforms of the predecessor are overturned in fire... including, in this case, the predecessor himself.
(I have to wonder... 400 years after our period in history, will they make a drink called the "Deep Swamp"? It doesn't sound as appealing.)
