Finnish couple takes home the title in Wife-Carrying World Championship

For years all over the world, husbands have been carrying their wives over thresholds at the beginning of their marriage, but I guess some men just won't let it go.

Before you know it, they're carrying their ladies for sport, beer, and money (mostly the latter two), but the glory is in the sport.

Behold the glorious competition of wife-carrying.

That was the UK's competition, which was somewhat silly and muted with a splash of water at the finish line and a keg of beer for the winner.

But the Canadians upped the ante by offering their winner the lady's weight in beer.

The U.S. goes even further and offers the lady's weight in beer and five times her weight in cash.

But real glory isn't in the money or beer... it's the gold medal and the title of wife-carrying world champion.

Every year, the very manliest men in the world gather in Sonkajärvi, Finland to carry their wives around a 200-meter obstacle course, complete with a water hazard.

This year, the gold was once again taken by the Finnish couple Taisto Miettinen and Katja Kovanen.

You can see their historic run here:

If you need me, I'll be out back with my wife on my shoulders training for next year.

Later, you can find me on the couch with an ice pack.
