Sometimes you read about a company that issues a recall, and you can kind of get how that product might have gone wrong, but Ford's recent recall on 2024-2025 models is a real head scratcher.

Essentially, if you put a new Ford into reverse or neutral, it might just drive forward anyway.

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration,

The transmission valve body may have been machined incorrectly, which can cause reverse gear failure, or unexpected forward movement in reverse or neutral gear.

And it's not a one off.

Here's the list of affected vehicles:

  • FORD BRONCO 2024-2025

  • FORD EXPLORER 2025

  • FORD F-150 2024-2025

  • FORD MUSTANG 2025

  • FORD RANGER 2024

  • LINCOLN AVIATOR 2025

Ford dealers will be making repairs to the gear box free of charge, and letters regarding the recall are scheduled to be sent out May 5th.

Federal law also says that those same dealers will have to sit on their stock of new cars until Ford can get the parts shipped out to them, or face some steep penalties.

Ouch!
