Former Chicago school official busted for stealing $1.5 million in chicken wings during lockdowns

Vera Liddell is the former director of food services for Chicago Harvey School District 152. She's the former director because she recently got busted for using the districts money to buy tons of chicken wings.

About $1.5 million in chicken wings to be exact.

The theft occurred during the 2020-2022 lockdowns in Chicago, when the children were not in school, but the schools were still serving take home lunches.

The district did not even notice that the wings were an issue until February 2022, when she ran afoul of an audit that showed the district's lunch spending was over its annual budget by $300,000, and there was still half the school year to go.

I mean that sounds like Liddell would have gotten away with it if she hadn't just been winging it and had did some actual planning, like if she had ordered 1,000 cases instead of 11,000.

The crime is oddly familiar to the infamous Fajita bandit in San Benito, TX.

Authorities say surveillance footage shows Liddell picking up the wings in a district van at the food distributor the district uses but when the van made it back to the school, no wings.

No one even knows where the wings went exactly, but prosecutors said that the schools were never the intended recipient because they cannot even serve chicken wings.

There's a rule about not giving kids meat with bones.

No wings for the kiddos?

And now this story has turned into another tragic example of public schools failing our children.

Homeschool your kids!

(Also. now I really want wings for dinner.)
