Fox News threatens to sue Tucker for breach of contract after he posts video to Twitter
· Jun 8, 2023 · NottheBee.com

Earlier this week, Tucker Carlson released the first episode in what he plans to be a regular news series on Twitter, quickly racking up more than 22.7 million video views, as of Thursday morning, and more than 100 views of the tweet in the same time frame.

But I guess Fox News is a little bit jealous that Tucker is releasing videos from his basement because they're now threatening to sue Carlson for posting a video to Twitter.

In a letter to Carlson's lawyers, Fox News general counsel Bernard Gugar said the broadcaster was "in breach" of his contract, which was signed in November 2019 and amended in February 2021.

Yes, they're "informing" Tucker of his contract violation.

Meaning they're threatening him, telling him to shut up, or else.

Honestly, do you think Tucker would post this video without his lawyers combing through the contract first and assuring him there would be no legal standing for Fox to sue?

I doubt it.

Here's what Tucker's lawyer had to say:

In a statement, Carlson's lawyer, Bryan Freedman, insisted that any legal action by Fox News would infringe on Carlson's First Amendment rights.

"Fox defends its very existence on freedom of speech grounds," Freedman said. "Now they want to take Tucker Carlson's right to speak freely away from him because he took to social media to share his thoughts on current events."

While Tucker's contract almost certainly has a non-compete clause it's very unlikely that would extend to him posting videos of himself on social media talking about politics.

It's not like he joined another network, after all.

But it's no shock that Fox would try to shut Tucker down as their ratings continue to descend post-Tucker.

Glenn Greenwald has thoughts:

I think this is exactly right.

Fox is terrified of Tucker unleashed and they're going to tie him up in court in order to try to shut him up.

Keep getting after it, Tucker! 💪
