Muslim Fulani militants attacked seven "predominantly Christian communities" in Nigeria on Tuesday.

The bodies of at least 43 slaughtered persons, including women and children, have been recovered from Tuesday's attacks.

Several people were injured and are being treated in various hospitals. More than 100 homes were destroyed in the onslaught.

"[I]t is a form of genocide and I am yet to see the role of the Government in stopping it," said Robert Ashi, President of the Irigew Development Assocation. "We are under siege!"

Fulani militants also attacked several other villages on Saturday, killing seven people and injuring several more people.

"[T]he terror being unleashed on by Fulani Herdsmen on Rigwe people has continued unabated and without any sign of remorse or regret," a press release from the Irigwe Development Association said of the Saturday attacks.

"The attacks which started around 7 p.m. lasted for over four hours unhindered and undistracted."

Some think the soldiers stationed in the villages were overwhelmed by the number of attackers while "other views had it that the commander over those units ... did not give orders to the soldiers to firmly engage the rampaging militants," according to International Christian Concern (ICC; persecution.org).

"[T]hese barbaric and devastating attacks must be stopped," said Nathan Johnson, ICC Regional Manager for Africa.

"The loss of so many lives with no support or aid from the government means that violent attackers are likely to continue their violence. The Nigerian government must figure out a way to stop these attacks quicker and then must severely punish those who commit these atrocities."
