A man at a school in Plettenberg in North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany, has touched a decorative cactus plant, and, as anyone who knows anything about cacti could've guessed, he was then injured by one of the cactus's spines.
Because cactus plants are covered in sharp, pointy spines!
So how is the over-sensitive, hyper-corrective Plettenberg government solving this problem? The mayor of Plettenberg immediately ordered the removal of all cactus plants in any and every government building in his jurisdiction.
For real.
Plettenberg mayor Ulrich Schulte wrote: 'Due to the current situation, all official and private cacti (Cactaceae) must be removed from municipal buildings immediately.'
The mayor said the ban was being undertaken because such plants could 'cause ugly injuries'.
The city council backed the mayor's decision 100%.
'What was an injury to the adult man's arm could easily have been a serious injury to the face for a small child in the same place,' the council said.
I guess it's too much to expect these Germans not to touch pointy, dangerous looking plants.
Unlike their former decorative cacti, they're not the sharpest bunch in Plettenberg.
Now, if this were my city, I'd probably put up warning signs such as the one below to keep people from injuring themselves.
That would solve the problem immediately, and we'd get to keep the beautiful, beautiful cacti.
