GMC currently has a recall on GMC Terrains built between 2010 and 2017 because from certain angles the headlights can cause glare and be too bright. At least that's what the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) says.
The official recall states,
The headlamp design allows a narrow beam of light from the lower beam lamp to reflect off of the inner surface of the high beam reflector.
However, GMC balked at the recall mandate from the government because the whole issue was based on one customer complaint.
I'll repeat that in case you missed it.
ONE customer complaint.
No accidents. No physical harm to anyone. Just one customer that thought it was too bright.
However, the current administration hates corporations so much, they ordered a recall on 740,000 vehicles because of one whiny customer.
But GMC seems to be getting the last laugh. Their fix for the headlight glare is a piece of tape.
Yes, one piece of tape, that they've titled a "Headlamp Applique Kit."
The directions tell the mechanic exactly where to place the piece of tape, and voilà, no more glare!
(At least not until it rains anyway.)
GMC customers have not been as amused as I am.
I guess I can understand that. Imagine taking your vehicle in, waiting hours in the lobby watching The View (because that's what's on the TV), and you can't change the channel and then when they finally bring out your car and you find that all they did was stick tape to your headlights.
