IMPORTANT: I've ranked all of the different types of fireworks effects for you because that's the sort of thing you need to know

Happy 4th of July!

As they sang in Schoolhouse Rock, there's gonna be fireworks today and I've decided that you need to know definitively which fireworks are the best.

I'm not talking about bottle rockets and Roman candles, that could be its own separate list. I am talking about classic fireworks show effects.

The loud booms, the ones that shoot like rockets, the glitter in the sky. What the 4th is all about (that and freedom and whatnot).

So, let's dive into it.

Number 1: The willow

The greatest firework effect of all is called either the willow or waterfall effect. It is simply the most beautiful display in the sky on any Independence Day celebration.

The burst and then the cascade effect with the sparkles. It's perfection.

Cannot be topped.

Number 2: Brocade

This is the straight up classic firework. There are so many other interesting effects on this list, but there's nothing quite like the stereotypical "that's a firework" effect.

When you think fireworks, you're thinking brocade.

Number 3: The Strobe

This one almost, almost, topped the classic brocade. It has the "pop" of the brocade with the added sparkling/strobing effect that evokes excitement and patriotism that's hard to explain.

Number 4: Crosette

Who doesn't love a two for the price of one?

You get the initial explosion and think, "Oh, these are normal fireworks" and then you're hit with the split apart at the end! A sneak attack of awesomeness!

Number 5: Pearls

This one, and the next one, would have ranked higher on the visuals alone. But with the somewhat underwhelming "boom" sound, they took a hit.

But I'm not going to lie, these are some of my personal favorites.

The volume, the amount of shots at once, make these an epic sight.

Number 6: Comets

Honestly, you could switch 5 and 6, they're both near perfect (yes, all fireworks are perfect. I'm an American).

The only knock is, like the pearls, they stay a little close to the ground.

But taken with the whole show, it provides a great variety.

Number 7: Dragon Eggs

Okay, I won't lie to you, I should have placed these higher but I'm too lazy to edit my list. Just know that I love these all nearly equally.

Man, that last second sparkle at the end. I really regret forgetting these guys.

Number 8-10: Pistil, Peony, Palm Tree

The Three Ps.

Okay, this is where the list sort of drops off.

These last three are great, but they aren't the first seven.

Pistil:

Peony:

Palm Tree:

All great in their own way. None deserving of special attention. But truly the backbone of a great fireworks show.

If you got nothing else out of this story, at least you now know the names of the different effects and can impress your friends with your pyrotechnic knowledge.
