Thanksgiving is quickly approaching, and to prepare us for the feasting that is to come, Zippia released a map of all the most popular Thanksgiving sides in each state.
Mashed potatoes are the most common (duh) making the top of the charts in 9 states.
But I'm gonna give them a tenth state because we all know Deleware actually wants mashed potatoes when they're googling how to make cauliflower mashed potatoes and being all healthy and snobby. Cauliflower is not a potato and never will be, so just get over it Deleware.
Zippia explains their research process here,
Using Google Trends, we determined what Thanksgiving side each state eats a disproportionate amount of. We examined over 20 Thanksgiving classics. From there, we determined what side is searched a disproportionately, high amount.
Just curious how stuffed mushrooms became a top 20 Thanksgiving side, but apparently if you live in New Jersey or Alaska that might just be your side of choice. Not exactly what comes to mind when I think of Thanksgiving, but two of the states geographically farthest apart came up with that so it may not be as weird as I thought.
Charcuterie trays also ranked #1 in two different states. But maybe all the influencers live in Missouri and Minnesota 🤷 I feel like that's a 2020 fluke that won't stick around much longer.
In the end, what this research really tells us is that if bread was its own category, it would win hands down because everyone loves their carb of choice whether that's dressing, stuffing, rolls, or cornbread.
Just please, for the love of delicious bread, don't go try and make cauliflower stuffing a thing.
