The church in America is seriously wanting for real leadership.
We've got a bunch of entertainers with smoke machines on one hand, and cringy megachurch leaders like Rick Warren on the other.
A huge swath of churches are flying rainbow-groomer flags in celebration of #Tolerance, because the God of Abraham, Issac, and Jacob is oh-so-tolerant of sin and there's definitely nothing in Scripture about perverse sexual practices under "every spreading tree" that led God to let his people be conquered by pagan armies and led into exile.
"Oh, you see these kids who think they're the opposite sex and also cats? That's not the work of an Enemy who desperately wants to desecrate the Imago Dei, that's just beautiful self-expression!"
Others like JD Greear are too busy telling you to atone for your white guilt to pay attention to the battlefield (we are at war, in case you forgot), some like Tim Keller are busy on mathematical theorems that will prove how voting for #ShoutYourAbortion candidates is morally right, and others like Phil from VeggieTales are busy writing songs with government agents who funded research to make bat viruses infectious to humans and then used church leaders to help shush those unChristlike conspiracy theorists, what with their propensity for truth and free air and human interaction.
In the meantime, denominations like the SBC are busy voting on how fast they want to adopt full Baal worship (5 to 10 years seems to be the consensus at the moment), although I'm sure someone is introducing a resolution to slow that to 12 years as an expression of their piety.
The reality is, we have a quasi-evangelical sphere of ninnies who stopped training for war a generation ago, and now it's coming around to bite them in the butt. But even worse, not only are they fat and lazy and convinced there is no war, but the tactics they're using now are simply the tactics of the Enemy a decade ago.
Let this rather wise gentleman from the internet explain:
The Left would have you shake at the idea of "Christian Nationalism," invoking women in red dresses instead of the historic aim of every Christian for God's "kingdom come on earth as it is in heaven."
There is no middle way. As CS Lewis said, every square inch of this world is claimed by God and counterclaimed by Satan. You cannot serve two masters. You must choose a side.
Ironically, for all its bantering about Nazis, the Left is correct that there is a rising movement of disaffected youth – especially young men – who like lightning are seeking someone to ground them in this circus of pronouns and racial division and fourth-wave feminist thought.
Throughout history, there have been plenty of strongmen who have righted the licentious decay of a society with a brutal emphasis on justice and order without grace. It happened in France after the wanton excesses and slaughter of the revolution, as Napoleon came to power and men willingly followed him in droves. It happened in Germany when the moral and societal decay after WWI made people long for a strong arm to lead their people into the future. It is a cycle of weak men making hard times and hard times making strong men.
But strong men are not necessarily good men.
The culture is shifting. The Left has gone too far in the pursuit of breaking reality and the center cannot hold. Icarus is falling back to earth. A reckoning will come no matter how many times you scream at the sky.
It is therefore a choice: A nation ruled by jackbooted authoritarianism, or a nation ruled by godly men and women who understand how to speak the truth in love?
The Church is the most essential vehicle to navigate the turbulence of what will come. There is no other agency under heaven that can keep us from either extreme where many of us end up dead on the ash heap of history. It is the Church alone that stands between us and a repeat of the 20th century's horrors. It needs to be here talking about government power, inherent rights, authoritarianism, socialism, our duty as Christians, and how to live with an attitude of love and self-sacrifice and grace. It needs to reteach the hard lessons learned over the past centuries about governance and power and sin by starting with basic truths about human identity, relationships, sexuality, and power.
Instead, it's too weak to say a man is not a woman. The Enemy has done his job quite well.
In 10 years, it might finally catch up with what's left of society.
"If I profess with the loudest voice and clearest exposition every portion of the truth of God except precisely that little point which the world and the devil are at the moment attacking, I am not confessing Christ, however boldly I may be professing Christ. Where the battle rages, there the loyalty of the soldier is proved. And to be steady on all the battle fields besides is merely flight and disgrace if he flinches at that point." – Martin Luther
