Here's an insane shootout in Ukraine ... oh wait, it's the southern U.S. border

Isn't it great that we have a super-duper strong president who is protecting our nation's borders from traffickers, warlords, and gangs? Otherwise, this literal warzone this week in Nuevo Laredo – right across the border from Laredo, Texas – might be a bit frightening:

[Warning: Violence]

Yeah, so the Mexican army had a shootout with the real power in the country, the cartels, and it got so bad that the U.S. consulate there shut down as residents filmed the gunfire from their living rooms.

From the Fox story:

The gunfire erupted late Sunday after the arrest of a leader of one faction of the Northeast Cartel, the successor group to the old Zetas Cartel, Mexico's most bloodthirsty gang. Suspected cartel members opened fire and hijacked and burned vehicles, apparently in retaliation for the arrest.

U.S Customs and Border Protection said southbound traffic from Laredo, Texas, into Nuevo Laredo at the Juarez-Lincoln and Gateway to the Americas bridges was suspended, but re-opened early Monday morning.

...The arrested suspect was not identified by his full name, in keeping with Mexican law.

The Mexican army said he was the leader of cartel gunmen known as "The Troops of Hell." They are an extremely violent and heavily armed gang of hitmen.

The suspect's nickname – "The Egg" – corresponds to Juan Gerardo Treviño, a nephew of imprisoned Zetas leader Miguel Angel Treviño.

So basically, the Mexican authorities arrested a top cartel mercenary and his men shot up and burned a city in retaliation.

Again, so glad we have a president who is protecting our borders and emanating strength to the world!!
