Hero Alert: After being shot in the face in an ambush, L.A. deputy works to save her wounded partner

This is what a hero looks like, folks.

Saturday, as two LA County Sheriff deputies sat in their parked patrol car, they were ambushed by a pedestrian who approached the vehicle and opened fire. The female officer was shot in the face, her male partner in the forehead.

Wounded and bleeding profusely, the female officer exited the car to provide medical assistance, applying a tourniquet to her partner's wounds, even before radioing for help -- all while bystanders looked on without assisting, some even mocking and delighting as they watched the drama unfold.

Barely understandable, her speech slurred from her injuries, she then radioed for help.

Her courage under fire, steady head, and swift action ensured that both herself (a 31 yr old mother of 6 yr old son) and her partner (a 24 yr old single man) -- each recent recruits -- survived the attack and, after life saving surgery, will return home to their families.

A $100K reward is offered for information leading to the arrest of their attacker.
