An Australian hiker found what he thought was a diamond python and brought it home to show his kids.
Unfortunately, the hiker forgot the number one rule of the outback.
Everything in Australia wants to kill you.
Turns out the diamond python was actually a venomous broad-headed snake.
They look a little similar I suppose.
The best way to tell the difference is to leave them both the heck alone and guess from about 30 yards away!
Since the hiker didn't follow best practices he picked the snake up, brought it home, and then the broad-headed snake did precisely what God designed it to do.
It tried to kill the hiker by biting his hand right in front of his horrified children.
Next thing he knew, his hand was swelling, and he was vomiting.
Being Australian, he immediately realized he'd made a horrible miscalculation and was rushed to the hospital, where they managed to save his life.
The bewildered snake was retrieved by Ray McGibbon, a snake expert and catcher, who returned it to its habitat.
"If you see a snake or any reptile in the wild , admire it in its own habitat," McGibbon wrote. "Take photos or a video and please DO NOT try and capture it or take it home. This is a learning curve for all."
Well, you could do that.
Or you could do what normal, civilized people do when they encounter a snake in the wild.
Run away screaming!
