How stupid do you have to be to try to rob a Texas meemaw?

I'm starting to suspect that the criminal class, as a whole, isn't too bright.

I mean, you got these guys who are going around trying to rob Texas hotels like it's nothing. 👇

The average Texas hotel tends to have more firepower on-site than a CENTCOM facility. It's not smart to try and rob one.

It is equally not smart to try and rob Texas grandmothers, who as a rule tend to pack heat just in case they need to shoot a bad guy.

A Texas grandma with a gun took down an armed robber Tuesday who had attempted to hold up her family-owned soul food truck.

Keshondra Howard Turner, 53, was cooking around 1pm inside the 'Elite Eats and Cold Treats' truck in a Houston parking lot when a 23-year-old man drove up alongside the vehicle.

The man asked what was on the menu, but as Turner attempted to show him, he pulled a handgun on her and the other employee working in the truck.

So the situation here is immediately escalated. The guy wasn't playing around or bluffing. Whether or not you know it, the minute you pull a gun out, you're prepared to shoot and kill someone. That's how guns work.

To her immense credit, Grandmother Turner did not want things to get that bad. Those of us who carry guns are regularly painted as dangerous, irresponsible vigilantes, but the truth of the matter is that nearly all gun owners never want to have to draw our weapons. Neither did she:

Turner quickly shut the food truck's open window, but the man forced it open, stuck his weapon inside and tried to fire.

She wanted to avoid violence. That's understandable. But not only did this creep draw his weapon, he attempted to shoot and kill either Mrs. Turner or her employee, or both of them. He was trying to murder them. No question about it. So she took appropriate action:

The gun jammed, which was when Turner, who is licensed to carry a handgun, drew her own weapon and shot the man several times.

The young man took a few steps back from the truck before collapsing about 50 feet away, which was where authorities found him and pronounced him dead.

He messed around. He found out. It's a story as old as time, and as old as Texas.

For Grandmother Turner's part, she "suffered from panic-attack induced chest pains, brought on by the shooting, and was taken to a nearby hospital for treatment."

She will presumably be fine; the police, meanwhile, are not looking to charge her, for obvious reasons.

If you're stupid enough to be a criminal, at least don't be stupid enough to commit your crimes in Texas.
