The Washington Times and the Center for Immigration Studies released research they had done into the census data and have exposed a pretty staggering fact.
MOST recent immigrants who have illegally entered into the United States are not working.
It's pretty close to a 50/50 proposition as to whether or not these migrants who we're told are a "boon to the economy" and are "harder workers than Americans" and will "do jobs Americans won't do" are even employed at all.
The Center for Immigration Studies, using Census Bureau numbers, calculates that 46% of immigrants who arrived over the past two years are employed. That challenges a key selling point from immigration advocates that the stream of newcomers is critical to the U.S. economy.
Some immigrants say they are looking for work, but most — including the elderly, children and caregivers — are out of the labor force, the report said.
The United States isn't taking in a new labor class, as has been true in previous generations, but instead is importing a group of people who are only going to be relying on benefits from the government or charity, and NOT on their own labor.
This is, to say the least, devastating for the elite lefty "who is going to be cleaning your toilet?" commentariat.
Well, it would be devastating if they cared about facts.
The fact is, if you bring in more people you bring in non-workers just as much as you bring in workers.
Immigrants account for 15.6% of the total U.S. population, also a record, shattering the previous high of 14.8% in 1890.
CIS said if trends continue, the U.S. will top 18% by the end of this decade. Australia's population is 30% immigrants, and Canada's is more than 20%. Germany's is roughly 19%, and Britain's is 14%.
'Perhaps the most fundamental question these numbers raise is whether America can successfully incorporate and assimilate all the immigrants already here, let alone millions more in the future,' the report said.
Can America sustain this? Will there be an America in a generation if this continues?
Of course, when it comes to the jobs report for illegal immigrants, Democrats will claim that it's difficult for illegal immigrants to get jobs because of E-verify and restrictions on employing illegal immigrants.
However, that seems to be simply an excuse without teeth.
Mr. Camarota and Ms. Zeigler said illegal immigrants seem to be getting jobs whether they have legal permits or not.
'Worksite enforcement in the United States is quite lax," they wrote. "As best we can tell, lack of work authorization does not seem to be a significant hindrance to the employment of illegal immigrants relative to the past or compared to immigrants overall.'
Whenever you move to a new place it can be difficult to get a new job. And perhaps the employment rate for illegal aliens will in the next decade match the employment rate for citizens. However, as things stand now, many of these illegal immigrants are not contributing to the US economically in any way.
An argument could have been made in the past, but now it's tougher to make that argument, especially with all the "free" stuff we're giving away to incentivize mass migration.
We've got a crisis on the border, folks. There's no two ways about it.
