Indian man killed after being thrown from ambulance while trying to stop driver from molesting his wife

Another day, another horrendous story of sexual assault out of India.

A woman in Lucknow, India hired an ambulance to take her husband, a neurology patient, back home after requesting his discharge from hospital late last month.

The driver and assistant of the private ambulance service then forced her to sit in the front seat and molested her. Things got even worse when her husband and brother tried to intervene from the back of the ambulance.

Here's the woman's account of what happened:

My husband sensed my trouble and he and my brother started shouting. However, both kept molesting me, while I kept fighting with them. They later stopped the ambulance on the main road of the Chhawani police station and forcibly removed the oxygen mask from my husband and threw him out. They locked my brother in the front cabin.

She said the men continued molesting her, and also stole money, jewelry, her identification card, and her husband's medical records.

Afterwards, her brother called the police, and her husband was admitted to the Basti district hospital.

Due to his serious condition, he was referred to the Medical College in Gorakhpur. But as soon as he reached Gorakhpur, my husband died.

According to the country's National Crime Records Bureau, an average of 90 rapes were reported every day in 2022, with the real figure likely to be much higher due to crimes going unreported out of fear, shame, or a lack of faith in police.

Just terrible news out of India.
