“I’m here to help you, man”: Watch NYC cops talk a jumper down from the Williamsburg Bridge
· Sep 30, 2023 · NottheBee.com

Mad respect for the boys in blue who have to be cops and crisis counselors at the same time:

NYPD officers scaled the Williamsburg Bridge Sunday to talk down a suicidal New Yorker in a daring rescue captured on bodycam video.

Members of the department's Emergency Service Unit climbed up the bridge at 5:23 p.m. after 911 callers reported spotting a man threatening to jump from atop the span.

Note in the video how the officer delivers a lifesaving spiel with a sort of calm, unstudied demeanor. This is how you do it in these situations:

"Whatever you're going through, it happens to all of us, man, ya know? But we gotta get you down from there. But listen, we gotta do this carefully 'cause it's raining. It's super slippery so I care about your safety and my partner's."

No word on what the man was suffering from. Let's hope it gets addressed.

In the meantime, thank God for good cops.
