The news out of Afghanistan has been alternately somber, terrifying, enraging and horrifying over the last few weeks. Amid that grim lineup, however, has been a small but pronounced silver lining: The return of all U.S. troops from that country for the first time in over two decades.
The XVIII Airborne Corps late on Monday shared a remarkable photograph of what it said was "the last Soldier to leave Afghanistan:"
The green hue makes gives the image a haunting quality. That, of course, along with the realization that this man represents the U.S. being completely out of Afghanistan and the terrorist Taliban being in complete control.
