Just an amazing story here. One for the ages.
Whoa!
FOUR MILES PER HOUR?!?!
Outta control!!!
Yes, a 37-year-old British man was pursued by police last month for two hours while navigating his 4mph top-speed narrowboat down a canal.
This happened in Leicester on the Grand Union Canal. The man had apparently breached a restraining order and allegedly assaulted someone, which led to the pursuit.
And get this: the officer who pursued the man for two hours...
THIS MAN WAS RIDING A BICYCLE!
Right there along the canal!
ON A BIKE!
And you can see him, right? He's just casually trekking along, pumping the pedals every once in a while, but mostly just sitting there watching the boat slowly move down the canal. Maybe he's pedaling backwards every now and then in boredom like any of us would. He's radioing his pals, making plans for the criminal's capture, but he's mostly just enjoying the ride.
"For 15 years I've been trying to tick off a water-based pursuit in landlocked Leicester and today I've ticked it off."
Yeah, he said that.
Well, eventually—AFTER TWO HOURS—the officer's were finally able to arrest the man.
"We waited until he was out [of] the boat and at Lock 37 on the [Grand Union Canal], when the trap was sprung by my colleagues lying in wait in the undergrowth nearby."
So they got 'em, folks. And that's one less criminal roaming the streets of Leicester.
