Restauranteur and celebrity chef Bobby Flay went on CNN's new morning show to discuss what he thinks is a sign of a coming economic crunch.
As a restaurant owner, Flay sees how people's behaviors change when money becomes tight, and he doesn't like what he's seeing now.
The thing about restaurants is it's an every-night focus group of how people are feeling about the economy. And what's happening is it's getting queezed from every sort of corner and edge.
Labor's expensive, commodities, the cost of food, goods, etc., is expensive, and of course occupancy cost is always expensive. The landlords never look out for you...
These are just realities about business in the Joe Biden economy. Employees are unaffordable, goods are more expensive, and your money is worth less.
Trying to profitably run a business in 2022 is nearly impossible.
The dumbest man in television, newly demoted Don Lemon, tried to say that people spend less because the media tells them the economy is bad.
Flay clarified that, in fact, the economy IS in trouble and it looks like it could get even worse.
Listen, unfortunately I've been around long enough to see this happen before. And ultimately we were able to come out of it, but you do have to hold on tight. I feel like something not good is happening... and I watch the way people are acting in the restaurants...
Meaning the person who last week was buying a $75 bottle of wine, maybe this week it's a $40 bottle of wine. They're making decisions that are actually squeezing the check average in the restaurant. And so you understand exactly that it makes it very difficult.
On the other side of it the restauranteur, the proprietor, is having a tough time making profits.
Bobby Flay is an Iron Chef who knows a thing or two about business.
As much as CNN and the Don Lemons of the world try to pump sunshine about the economy, things are bad out there.
Thanks a lot, Brandon.
