It looks like ChatGPT-mania is cooling down fast

That noise you heard? That was just the sound of thousands of journalists and writers breathing a sigh of relief.

Yes, everyone's favorite Artificial Intelligence assistant ChatGPT is losing hype, traffic, and users at a shocking pace.

I guess the novelty is starting to wear off.

ChatGPT's explosion in popularity may have been short-lived as the number of website visits dropped for the third consecutive month, according to data released by Similarweb on Thursday. OpenAI's ChatGPT took off in November of last year, surpassing 100 million users but started its decline in March, dropping from 8.7 minutes users spent on the site to seven minutes by August.

People are just not using ChatGPT like they were just a few short months ago.

Could that be because school was out over the summer and students weren't using it to cheat as often? That's a real possibility. But there has been no indication that ChatGPT is about to rise again.

It also may just be that ChatGPT isn't as much of a miracle program as everyone was led to believe.

From Business Insider:

In July, users of OpenAI's latest model, GPT-4, started complaining that the chatbot's performance had declined. A paper from Stanford and Berkeley academics found GPT-4 was less accurate in a number of tasks โ€” like a 2.4% accuracy in identifying prime numbers compared to 97.6% accuracy three months earlier.

The computer is getting dumber.

Which, I guess, isn't shocking if it's learning everything from the internet and limited by woke parameters.

(And I'm not just saying that to protect my job from AI ๐Ÿ˜ญ)
