Earlier this year, the Southern Baptist Convention Executive Committee made the move to break fellowship with megachurch Saddleback Church, home of celebrity pastor and author Rick Warren, because of the church's insistence on ordaining women as pastors, violating SBC long-held rules.

The Southern Baptist Convention is meeting in New Orleans right now and, by a not particularly close margin, the messengers in NOLA voted to officially remove Saddleback from the Southern Baptist Convention.

Rick Warren vs. Al Mohler

Yesterday, Rick Warren pleaded his case at the Southern Baptist Convention annual meeting and was summarily handed his own caboose by the architect of the Baptist conservative resurgence in the 1990s, Albert Mohler, current President of the Southern Baptist Theological Seminary.

Southern Baptists together stood up against the divisive Rick Warren and made it clear that this is a line in the sand and they will not give in to the liberal drift within their denomination.
