Even if you're a supporter of it, the Canadian trucker protest might seem like a distant kind of thing, happening in another country, exciting but not immediately relevant to your life.
Well, guess what: It just got very relevant.
The anti-vaccination trucker protest that has paralyzed the Canadian capital, Ottawa, has spread to Michigan's border and threatens to create chaos in an auto industry already struggling to cope with what industry experts have described as a "fragile supply chain."
Demonstrators have been setting up blockades at the two bridges linking Ontario and Michigan since Monday. The Blue Water and Ambassador bridges together serve thousands of trucks every day, many of them carrying automotiv me parts and finished vehicles...
On Wednesday, the Chrysler Pacifica minivan plant became the first direct casualty. Officials with the leading global automaker Stellantis temporarily halted production at the factory because it doesn't have enough parts. Ford on Wednesday became the second manufacturer to take steps to deal with parts shortages.
A message to every single public official in Canada pushing vax mandates: END THEM NOW.
Seriously. Yes, we know, you want to make sure everyone in the whole world gets injected with an experimental untested vaccine so we can return to normal at least until you impose new restrictions on us for no reason bla bla bla.
Here's a word of advice: Stop holding onto your pride. You've lost this one. A ton of people don't want to get the vaccine. That's fine. They've made their choice. They can live their lives. Let them. Then go and live yours. That's it. It's really that simple.
The alternative is to keep pushing vax mandates, prolong this blockade, wreak economic havoc on maybe every single sector of the economy, bring your country and likely many other countries to the brink of economic catastrophe...and for what? So you can continue to demand that people get a shot they don't want to save them from a virus that they're not afraid of?
Enough. End this or it's only going to get worse. Much worse.
