Apparently James Comey, like the rest of us, thinks everyone who watches Stephen Colbert's show is an idiot.
The former FBI chief went on Colbert on Tuesday and tried to claim that he had no idea what his "8647" post meant, and that he totally just stumbled upon it at the beach, and that he is totally innocent.

Yeah, if you want to clear yourself of calling for the death of a president, the first thing you should do is go on Colbert!
No one is more fair, honest, level-headed, and unbiased than Stephen Colbert.
Here was Comey's explaination:
Comey: Yeah, my wife and I, Patrice, were walking on the beach and saw those numbers in shells on the beach -
Colbert: You didn't do this, somebody else did it?
Comey: Yeah, somebody else did it. We were on a walk preparing for this week, the roll out of my book, she looked at it and said, 'Why did someone put there address in the sand?'
And then we looked at it trying to figure out what it was, and she'd long been a server in restaurants, and she said, 'You know what I think it is? I think it's a reference to restaurants, when you'd 86 something in a restaurant ... I said, 'I think it's a clever political message.' And she said, 'You should take a picture of it.' I said, 'sure,' and then she said 'You should Instagram that.' And Boom!
That's the most totally believable excuse I've ever heard in my entire life.
He literally goes full Adam, "The woman whom you gave to me, it was her idea!"
But now he's promoting his book off of it!
Some reactions:
I'm sure if Joe Rogan, like Colbert here, didn't push back at all when a Republican told a similar story about accidentally calling for the assassination of a Democratic president the Left would be fine with it though 🤷‍♂️.
Sounds like Comey did receive a phone call from Secret Service and told them this same story.
