Joni Mitchell is the latest musician to threaten to remove her music from Spotify—wait, who?
· Jan 29, 2022 · NottheBee.com

We watched this week as Neil Young demanded Spotify either boot Joe Rogan from its platform or remove all of Neil Young's music from it, after which Spotify promptly removed all of Neil Young's music from its servers.

Now another music star is threatening the same thing:

Joni Mitchell said Friday that she would remove her music from Spotify, joining Neil Young in his protest against the streaming service over its role in giving a platform to Covid-19 vaccine misinformation.

Mitchell, an esteemed singer-songwriter of songs like "Big Yellow Taxi," and whose landmark album "Blue" just had its 50th anniversary, posted a brief statement on her website Friday saying that she would remove her music from the streaming service. "Irresponsible people are spreading lies that are costing people their lives," she wrote. "I stand in solidarity with Neil Young and the global scientific and medical communities on this issue."

Okay, um...maybe I'm showing my age here, but....who exactly is Joni Mitchell?

I'm not trying to be mean here. I'm sure she's a talented songwriter and has had a long and successful career.

But, like...has she done anything that I've ever listened to? Because I've never heard of the song "Big Yellow Taxi."

Wasn't that the theme song to the Mary Tyler Moore show? That can't be right.

Well, let me do some speed-reading on Wikipedia and see if anything rings a bell...

Mitchell switched labels and began exploring more jazz-influenced melodic ideas, by way of lush pop textures, on 1974's Court and Spark, which featured the radio hits "Help Me" and "Free Man in Paris" and became her best-selling album.

Okay, if I've never heard of her "best-selling album," then I guess I'd better just give up.

Look, again, I'm not trying to be mean, but...if it's a contest between Joni Mitchell and Joe Rogan...who do you think is gonna win? I have some ideas.

In the meantime, I suppose I could go listen to some of Mitchell's music to get an idea of what she's like—though I guess I won't find it on Spotify much longer!
