I have never seen a person more unaptly named "Joy."
Ah, so because there were a few policy and staffing changes in the giant behemoth of the unelected federal bureaucracy, that means Trump is to blame and the Ohio voters that elected him are responsible for their own fate.
What. A. Take.
Leftists: "You can't blame rising crime in cities on our 50 years of unbroken control in local governance!"
Also leftists: "There were a few regulations in the giant government machine that changed a few years back, and while there's no evidence these changes would have prevented this specific derailment of a random train in Ohio, we're going to blame the former president because you get what you get, MAGA voters. Die, scum!"
Here's the context of the clip:
Since the government is the most generous and efficient force for good on the planet, obviously more regulation always leads to the safest and best outcomes. It's not like the train and railroad industry has been one of the most regulated industries over the last century and a half, with powerful government-corporate alliances that have stoked corruption all around.
We should regulate everything – maybe put the government in charge of all the means of production! That's worked out well for people in the past!
It's true that the railroad industry lobbied against the adoption of newer Electronically Controlled Pneumatic (ECP) brakes. Obama first put forward a policy in 2014 that would require better safety regulations for trains carrying toxic waste. It's true that Trump and GOP representatives helped prevent that policy from taking place in 2017 as part of 100 environmental regulation policies that the Trump administration rolled back.
But even Biden's own National Transportation Safety Board Chair is calling for these blame games to stop, saying that the Trump-era changes had little impact on this situation:
For the sake of posterity, let's play Behar and Buttigieg's game. Are there Republicans out there who would put lobbyist money ahead of human life? Sure.
Alright, now let's look at the other team. The Democrats (like Obama) have purposely used federal agencies, especially ones like the EPA and CDC focused on health and safety, to ram through law that they can't get passed through Congress. This is blatantly illegal per the Constitution, but executive power is out of control these days. This is why landlords couldn't evict renters from their own property when the Center for Disease Control randomly said so.
Last year the Supreme Court severely limited the EPA's ability to regulate emissions. Why? Dems were trying to use the agency to force businesses to comply with their ideologies instead of introducing laws that would reflect the will of the American people.
Would it be good to monitor emissions in some form for the benefit of Americans? Sure! Are there companies that would poison us to make a buck. Yep!
But the Dems have made it their mission over the last 50 years to weaponize the alphabet agencies to exert their religious worldviews and beliefs. Much of the GOP pushback in recent years has been limiting these agencies and policies as much as possible – not so that safety is harmed, but so liberty can survive.
To that end, I might tell Behar that the damage the Dems have done by weaponizing America's institutions for their ideological coup has put us more at risk than anything else – endangering both our freedoms and our literal infrastructure.
