We often joke about Democrats taking in illegal immigrant gangbangers, but this is the first I've seen it in reality, and it's worse than I imagined.
Wild story, I know. And it's real.
A New Mexico Democrat judge harbored an alleged Tren de Aragua gang member in his home, where the illegal immigrant was arrested on February 28.
And then…
Magistrate Judge Jose ‘Joel' Cano announced his resignation on March 3, the same day that Cristhian Ortega-Lopez, 23, who has alleged ties to the Tren de Aragua gang in Venezuela, appeared before a judge on charges of being an unlawful alien in possession of a firearm and ammunition.
Of course, Ortega-Lopez was in our country illegally, and of course, he was caught and released, likely sometime before April 2024, when he filed a request for immigration relief using the Cano residence as his address.
After Ortega-Lopez's release, he met Nancy Cano, Jose Cano's wife, while doing construction. She took a liking to him, and he would eventually end up living in the couple's home.
To make matters even more crazy, Jose and Nancy's daughter, April, who owns a bunch of firearms, allegedly "allowed him to hold and sometimes shoot various firearms."
It is unclear whether the firearm Ortega-Lopez was caught with belonged to April Cano.
It is clear, however, that Judge Jose Cano resigned as a sort of reaction to this whole debacle.
‘Working with each of you has been a very rewarding experience for which I will remain eternally grateful,' Cano wrote in a letter addressed to 3rd Judicial District Chief Judge Conrad Perea and court staff. The letter declared his last day as March 21, which dockets show was also the last day he had hearings scheduled in court.
Dude had an illegal alien - allegedly a Tren de Aragua member! - living in his home, and when the illegal was arrested the judge decided to resign.
If that isn't a tale of the modern Democratic Party, then I don't know what is.
