Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot's reelection campaign is in hot water after an email was sent from her deputy campaign manager to teachers in the Chicago Public School system (which as mayor, she oversees) asking teachers to give extra credit to students who volunteer with her campaign.
The email which was leaked to WTTW News, says:
We're simply looking for enthusiastic, curious, and hard-working young people eager to help Mayor Lightfoot win this spring.
Over the weekend, Mayor Lightfoot responded to the incident by saying, "It was simply a mistake."
Watch the mayor's complete response here:
Mayor Lightfoot noted that the line between being the incumbent mayor and the campaign was blurred.
I'm sure that is true, but even if she was not the one personally running for reelection, would that make it appropriate for the mayor to incentivize public school students to participate in any particular political campaign?
