Talk about failing at the mark of the beast.

Zi Teng Wang implanted a RFID microchip in his hand so that he could perform "magic tricks" using the power of technology. The idea was that he could wave his hand over someone else's phone, and the RFID reader in the phone would pick it up and do something like display a meme.

Unfortunately, RFID tags aren't that accurate.

‘It turns out,' said Zi, ‘that pressing someone else's phone to my hand repeatedly, trying to figure out where their phone's RFID reader is, really doesn't come off super mysterious and magical and amazing.'

And using his own phone wasn't that impressive.

So, he programmed the chip to display an Imgur meme as an oddity if not a magic trick.

and if you ever meet me in person you can scan my chip and see the meme.

But then the U.K. passed age-verification laws to keep kids off porn, and the Imgur link stopped working.

He tried to rewrite the chip again, but that's when he realized he forgot the password.

He said: ‘Techie friends I've consulted with have determined that it's too dumb and simple to hack, the only way to crack it is to strap on an RFID reader for days to weeks, brute forcing every possible combination.'

That's not going to happen, so he's resigned to keep a useless piece of tech embedded in his hand, unless he wants to get it surgically removed.

He had this to say of the incident:

I'm living my own cyberpunk dystopia life right now.
