Sam Reid from Lexington, Virginia, announced this week he will only eat from Taco Bell for "30 days straight" in an experiment "to see if it's possible to actually become healthier while doing it."
"Back in 2016, I saw an article that claimed Taco Bell had become the healthiest fast food restaurant," he said. "Immediately, my mind flashed back to the first time I saw Super Size Me (a documentary in which Morgan Spurlock ate nothing but McDonald's for a month). I was oddly fascinated with that movie. I loved fast food. And I remember thinking to myself, 'I bet I could do that.'"
The experiment will include three meals a day (90 total meals). Reid also said he would eat every item on the menu at least once. Reid specified he plans to measure weight, body fat, cholesterol, sodium, and blood pressure.
"I plan on consulting with experts, exploring the relationship we have with food, and documenting every step of the way. Unlike the premise of SuperSize Me, I'm going to engage in regular cardio and weight training and actively try to maintain a healthy lifestyle."
Reid launched a Kickstarter this week for the project with a $750 funding goal. It has since received over $1800, as of Friday morning. With the funds, he plans to make a "20-minute mini-documentary" titled Más: A Fast Food Documentary.
Both of the Kickstarter's stretch goals have been met, which include an exclusive extended cut of the film and a trip "to Nevada to have [the] final meal at the Flagship Taco Bell Cantina on the Las Vegas Strip."
