Meanwhile in Russia: Moscow teen survives lightning strike to the face

We all know Russia is a special place. After all, where else could you find dashcam videos of a tank barreling across a road, a jet rocketing over a highway, or a meteor exploding in a shockwave that injured more than 1,400 people??

Let's also not forget the nation's love of bears...

And don't even get me started on the Soviet jokes.

Earlier this month, in truly Russian fashion, a 16-year-old named Ivan Zaborovsky was struck by lightning while practicing with his soccer team near Moscow. While the weather was overcast, there was no other sign of rain or lightning in the area. That's Russia for you: always keeping its citizens on their toes!

Of course โ€“ again in truly Russian fashion โ€“ a little explosion of concentrated plasma wasn't going to keep Zaborovsky down. He was initially given emergency care and placed in an induced coma, but the only lasting injury is a scar where he had been wearing a necklace. Three weeks later, he's now back on the field.

Way to represent the motherland, comrade! ๐Ÿ˜‰
