Mike Johnson favors stopgap funding bill, pushing DOGE cuts to a later date

You really thought that Trump winning would make the entire GOP fall in line? You really thought Congress would start to be competent with a competent administration?

You must be new here.

Would you look at that! Republicans in Congress, led by Mike Johnson, are more interested in kicking the can down the road than they are codifying the progress being made by the Trump admin.

It's not like Republicans have majorities in both chambers, a majority on the Supreme Court, and control of the executive office. Why would they push hard to do what the voters elected them to do right now?

They'll do it later when Democrats can be blamed for obstructing!

Speaker Mike Johnson said Sunday he wants to pass a clean government funding extension to avoid a shutdown through September and then work toward incorporating cuts devised by Elon Musk's Department of Government Efficiency initiative in legislation for fiscal year 2026.

Johnson's comments on NBC's 'Meet the Press' may help lower the risk of a shutdown after March 14. Republicans had previously floated codifying DOGE cuts in an appropriations bill right away, which would force a standoff with Democrats.

Yes, wait till an election year when the entirety of congress is afraid to even wipe their butts for fear of upsetting their voters.

Johnson said in a separate interview on CNN's State of the Union on Sunday that Republicans needed 'a few more weeks, maybe a month of [SIC] more' to find a way to codify Musk's efforts to cut down on federal government spending.

When immediate action is needed, you can always count on Republicans to get on it in a few weeks!
