"It's-a-me, Mario," shouted local legend Josh Schaffer as he rode his go-kart around downtown Milwaukee dressed as Mario. (For you old-timers, this is a reference to the Mario Kart video games which are hugely popular, but not as cool as the original Super Mario Bros).
Check out this video of Milwaukee Mario:
Schaffer has been spotted on several occasions in Milwaukee, Wisconsin hitting up spots like the Third Ward, the East Side, and the Milwaukee Public Market. It is unclear how many banana peels have slipped him up along the way, but we know one fan did toss a peel down from an apartment at one point, barely missing the target.
Some call him Milwaukee Mario, but Schaffer is actually from Chicago. He has also made appearances as Mario in Madison, Des Moines, Indianapolis, Cincinnati, and Columbus. And no, this guy does not use his go-kart to commute from city to city. But thanks for asking.
You want some proof that Josh Schaffer is one of the best people you'll ever meet in your life (if you do get the chance)?
Let's hear it, Milwaukee Mario:
"With the pandemic going on, people, they aren't having fun like they used to. So to see me riding around, that instantly brings joy."
Wow, that's the good stuff right there, Josh. Keep it coming...
"I just want to let everybody know I'm just trying to bring positivity to the world, and to like, watch for me riding around, give me a wave, give me a holler."
And if that wasn't enough, you should know, Josh DOES NOT HESITATE to let others test-drive his Mario Kart.
Amazing.
I'll be looking for you, Mario.
