The Minneapolis Police Department is set to receive $191 million in 2022.
Mayor Jacob Frey and the City Council have effectively restored the budget to its pre-George Floyd total in 2020, according to the Star Tribune.
Hmm... Why did city leaders decide to REFUND the police one year after their seemingly unquenchable zeal to DEFUND the police? 🤔
The Star Tribune reports "urgency faded as crime surged."
Wow. Who would've thought crime would surge under the circumstances of little to no police presence?
Shocking, I know!
"There wasn't more of that type of ["Defund The Police"] action because there wasn't the political will, really, to do so," said Council Member Phillipe Cunningham.
Cunningham lost re-election this fall after spamming about defunding the police, and you absolutely HATE to see it, folks. 😢
"This vote is a first step on a long road back from the division over public safety that has characterized the past 18 tumultuous months in Minneapolis," said Steve Cramer, president of the Downtown Council.
Cramer is "one of only a handful of people to speak in favor of increasing the police budget," the Star Tribune reports.
