Sheesh, have I got a story for you.

27-year-old Minnesota father Levi Axtell walked into a sheriff's office Wednesday "covered in blood, with his head in his hands," and confessed to killing convicted child molester Lawrence Scully with some freaking moose antlers and a shovel.

Scully, 77 (!), was convicted of molesting a six-year-old girl in 1979. Axtell claims to have long suspected the elderly man of stalking his toddler daughter at her daycare and says he repeatedly saw him conspicuously sitting in his parked van at locations where children were present "and believed he would reoffend."

The details of the killing are pretty gnarly so I'll just water them down for you: Axtell entered the old man's home and beat him senseless with the shovel, then "finished him off" with the antlers. He then drove straight to the police station and confessed.

Axtell said he had known Scully for a long time "and believed him to have sexually offended against children in the past," the criminal complaint read. In 2018 Axtell even had a protection order granted against Scully ... however this order was later dropped.

Scully petitioned for release and was subsequently set free from prison in 1982 on grounds that he wouldn't present a danger to the public. However, in 2018 he was again subject to multiple allegations of sexual misconduct with minors.

Cook County Sheriff Pat Eliasen also mentioned that his department was aware of multiple allegations put forth against Scully, but failed to pursue any investigations.

Axtell's family has released a statement in support of the father:

Levi Axtell is in jail awaiting his next court appearance, which is scheduled for April 10.
