Montana hunter kills, skins Siberian husky after mistaking it for a wolf pup

Man, this is embarrassing:

Chick was out in the wilderness hunting for black bear and somehow came across a Siberian husky which, naturally, she shot dead, or "smoked," in her words.

I don't know whether to laugh or to cry, but the internet knew exactly how to react:

Yeah, these folks are upset. And I can see why.

Now, I don't know how to break this to you guys, but if I was this hunter, I'd have probably done the same exact thing.

Look, she'd purchased a wolf tag before leaving for the hunt. You would too, if you were a good sport. And if this dog approached you with a growl and it's teeth out 11 miles into the wilderness you'd shoot it dead in a heartbeat.

"I purchased my wolf tag prior to leaving for a bear hunt in the event I ran into a wolf in which I came to en [sic] encounter with what I thought could be a hybrid during this time my safety was top priority this animal was growling howling and coming at me like it was going to eat me," she wrote on Facebook.

"Yes I made a mistake because I did think it was a hybrid wolf pup," she wrote, adding that she was unaware of several dogs "being dropped 11 miles into the wilderness."

So yeah, maybe you don't want to go boasting on the internet that you've just killed and skinned a Siberian husky, but in the moment, anyone in their right mind would've taken that shot.

Your life is in danger, and you've literally got a few seconds to make the call.

And why in the world did someone drop several dogs 11 miles into the wilderness? That's just weird.

Well, it looks like the authorities have launched an investigation into this shooting, so we'll see what happens with that.

Some info on wolf limits in Montana:

According to regulations set out by Montana Fish, Wildlife and Parks, a person can take up to 20 wolves with no more than 10 via hunting and no more than 10 via trapping. For hunting, a separate license is required for each wolf.

Looks to me like Ms. Rose could've taken down nine more wolves.

But we'll see what the law has to say about that.
