More from KTLA:

A massive police response was deployed Wednesday night in east Los Angeles after three officers were shot while responding to a call.

The suspect was reportedly a parolee at large.

I wouldn't be surprised if it was one of the upstanding citizens that big cities like LA regularly release early in the name of justice "reform."

The shooting took place some time after 6 p.m. near the intersection of Mission Road and North Broadway.

Video from Sky5 showed a large perimeter set up around the scene for what appeared to be a barricaded suspect.

Around 8:10 p.m., SWAT officers could be seen approaching a home. At one point, an elderly man and a child were escorted out of the home. It's unclear if it was the same home that the suspect was located.

All three of the cops were K9 unit officers. One was shot in the arm, another in the vest with shrapnel in the midsection, and the third either in the elbow or the leg depending on the news source, making you wonder what kind of heat the perp was packing.

All three officers were taken to the hospital in stable condition.

CBS has more on how the situation started. Officers were reportedly searching for the parolee in connection with an unknown felony. With K9 units present, some outlets initially reported a narcotics connection.

Officers found the suspect in an alleyway, but he fled into a nearby house.

"During the subsequent investigation, officers came across the individual who refused to comply to the commands and a request for K9 officers was requested from the Metropolitan division," said LAPD Assistant Chief Al Labrada during a press conference.

At around 6:30 p.m., while searching the area, they encountered the suspect who was barricaded inside of a shed and used gas to try and coax him out, at which point he exited and began to shoot at officers, striking three.

KTLA says the officers returned fire and the man retreated back into the house, where he was later found dead. Officials have not said if he was killed by officers or his own hand.

Just a reminder that this criminal ignored about 5,000 of the nation's strictest gun laws in LA and California!
