So here we are on our first day writing content and exploring exactly what we can do with our new website, "Not the Bee." This website is an ongoing experiment, a sort of news/social/tech/lifestyle conglomeration that can not be categorized or compared to any specific site we've ever come across.
When @Adam and I first started chatting about this site and what it could become, we first thought about the fact that there was no conservative Christian alternative to pop-culture sites like Barstool Sports or Reddit. As social media becomes more and more toxic and more intolerant of Christian values, we realized we needed to create a safe place for people to congregate, share funny posts, and just enjoy social interaction.
But we didn't just want to create a Christian/conservative twitter or Facebook. Our goals were much more lofty. We envisioned a site that bridged the entire gap between Disrn and The Babylon Bee, something that captured the most absurd news articles that were almost too funny or disturbing to be true, but also focused on simple-to-share or bitesized videos/memes/gifs that people could just laugh at and enjoy.
We also wanted to make this site community-based and focus heavily on user-interaction and enjoyability. We've found such a vibrant, healthy community of commenters and contributors across our sites that we knew we could bring them together in one place and open up the gates a little more and see what people wanted to share and contribute in a more open platform. Rather than limiting comments to our articles (which we call "Stories"), we want people to be able to post their own stories and share what's going on in their lives. We want a place where people can mingle, share prayer requests or some silly golf video (we love silly golf videos, by the way).
There's nothing more satisfying than finding that one piece of hilarious internet gold and sharing it with your friends. The problem is that so much of the gold is hidden in piles of complete and utter garbage. Our goal with Not the Bee is to sort through that nonsense and find the stuff that really makes us think and is either edifying or wholesome or funny or a combination thereof.
So welcome to Not the Bee! In future blog posts I'm going to focus on tech, gadgets, nerdy movie reviews and some other things, so I hope you'll hit the follow button and continue on this journey with me as we figure out exactly what this site can be and where it will go. The sky's the limit.
