This new documentary says Abe Lincoln was gay because of course it does

Lover of Men is a new documentary examining the sex lives of great Americans.

Why is that even a thing?

Well, because we're a porn-ified and perverse culture.

And in this doc we discover the shocking accusations that Honest Abe was actually GAAAAAAY!

What was once a simple 30 Rock joke is now what passes as "history."

Here's the actual, not-satire trailer for this real documentary on Abraham Lincoln's [checks notes] gay sex life.

They're saying Lincoln was TOTALLY gay based on ... a friend he had since his youth who used to spend the night at his house.

They call this the "smoking gun."

Sexuality throughout the 19th Century was far more fluid!

Guys, they're really trying to slander (idolize) a president 150+ years after his death by labeling him a homosexual.

I mean, for real.

In modern eyes, we might say that spending the night, or sharing a bed with someone of the same sex, makes one gay. But there's no evidence it was more than that.

I'll even give you this historical lesson from the BBC in an article about "communal sleeping" published in January:

Until the mid-19th Century, it was completely normal to share a bed with friends, colleagues and even total strangers ... Despite the modern connotations of two men sharing a bed, at the time this was entirely unremarkable - appearing almost as a casual aside in a contemporary chronicle on the history of England.

...

Sometimes, "social sleeping" was simply a pragmatic solution to a shortage of beds, which were highly valuable pieces of furniture. But even the nobility actively sought out bedfellows for the unparallelled intimacy of night-time chats in the darkness, as well as warmth and a feeling of security.

Look, here's a medieval painting of the Magi from the Christmas story sleeping in the same bed - guess they were gay!!

Modern and post-modern historians could learn something from C.S. Lewis:

Those who cannot conceive friendship as a substantive love but only as a disguise or elaboration of Eros betray the fact that they have never had a friend.

That's Lewis's way of calling these guys "losers" from beyond the grave, if you couldn't tell.

It does explain a few things, of course.

I can't believe that this is what passes for serious history in 2024 ๐Ÿ˜ญ
