The transnational criminal organization, formed in a Venezuelan prison and named after the state where it was founded, focuses on human trafficking, extortion and other abuses targeting vulnerable migrants.
It's entirely possible, and somewhat likely given the brutality of Laken's murder, that this killing was part of a ritual gang killing that TdA members often participate in.
Ibarra and his brother lived one mile from UGA campus, where Laken was killed. They entered the country illegally in 2022, were processed in El Paso, made their way to New York, were arrested and released, and then ended up in Georgia.
