New West Point mission statement omits "Duty, Honor, Country"

The United States Military Academy at West Point has a slightly revised mission statement which, since our military continues to follow woke trends, omits General Douglas MacArthur's, "Duty, Honor, and Country," replacing it with a simple, "Army values."

Here's the old mission statement:

To build, educate, train, and inspire the Corps of Cadets to be commissioned leaders of character committed to duty, honor, and country, and ready for a lifetime of service to the Army and Nation.

And here is what it looks like now, without those three important words:

To build, educate, train, and inspire the Corps of Cadets to be commissioned leaders of character committed to Army values and ready for a lifetime of service to the Army and Nation.

This did not go over well, and a lot of people had thoughts.

🤣🤣🤣

Lt. Gen. Steve Gilland wrote in a memo concerning the new statement:

Our updated mission statement focuses on the mission essential tasks of Build, Educate, Train, and Inspire the Corps of Cadets to be commissioned leaders of character, with the explicit purpose of being committed to the Army Values and Ready for a lifetime of service. The Army Values include Duty and Honor, and Country is reflected in Loyalty, bearing true faith and allegiance to the U.S. Constitution, the Army, your unit, and other Soldiers. In the past century, West Point's mission has changed nine times. Many graduates will recall the mission statement they learned as new cadets did not include the motto, as Duty, Honor, Country was first added to the mission statement in 1998.

"Duty, Honor, Country" will continue to be the Army's motto, regardless of whether or not it's in the mission statement, so we at least have that going for us.

As for my opinion on this mission statement change, I'd say this is just more of the same from our woke military. Using the phrase "duty, honor, and country" is meaningful. "Army values" could mean just about anything. It's bland and boring, and nobody's sure what it means — but maybe that's the point.
