We're back with a fan favorite, and he has outdone himself!
Travis Gienger of Anoka, Minnesota, just won the 50th World Championship Pumpkin Weigh-Off in Half Moon Bay, California.
I was not expecting that. It was quite the feeling.
Back in 2020, NTB was already impressed with Travis when he grew a 2,350-pound gourd.
Then, just last year, NTB reported on Travis when he broke the US record for the largest pumpkin at 2,560 lbs.
We sure were proud of him then, but we can now add another title to his very impressive resume.
According to the Guinness World Records, a grower in Italy set the previous world record for the heaviest pumpkin last year with a 2,702-pound squash.
But our boy proved once again that America is #1 πΊπΈ
Travis, a 43-year-old horticulture teacher, has been growing pumpkins for almost 30 years with inspiration from his father, who also grew them, and his commitment is not fruitless.
He showed up with an enormous, 2,749-pound pumpkin that could produce at least 687 pies.
SIX HUNDRED EIGHTY SEVEN PIES!!
They had to purchase a new scale for the competition just to weigh the thing.
Travis now holds the world record for the heaviest pumpkin.
I put in the work so that I can put a smile on people's faces and it's just so nice coming out here to see everyone in this town.
Travis, The Pumpkin Champion, secured an impressive $30,000 prize for his outstanding pumpkin masterpiece.
His artwork, the giant pumpkin, will be showcased in Half Moon Bay alongside the three runner-up pumpkins until the upcoming weekend. During the city's Art and Pumpkin Festival, visitors can snap photos with Travis, his remarkable creation, and the colossal gourd.
Atta boy, Travis! π
