New York firefighters respond to "confirmed house fire" that was actually just a VERY realistic Halloween display. Check out the video.

There's decorating for Halloween, and then there's decorating for Halloween. One family in Glens Falls, New York, took their decorations to the TOP LEVEL, which led to multiple calls reporting a house fire at the residence.

It turns out that what looked to be a home engulfed in flames was actually a very elaborate display utilizing a fog machine, LED lights, sheets, and a box fan.

They were really harnessing their inner "Kevin" from Home Alone!

The Glens Falls Fire Department posted a video of the spooky display on their Facebook page with the caption:

Tonight crews were dispatched to the area of Sanford St for a report of a confirmed structure fire. To our surprise this was an amazing Halloween decoration. Thank you to the gracious owner for permission for posting. This display will be up Friday and Saturday nights for the publics entertainment until the end of the month.

While the fire department did seem to take the fiasco with a good sense of humor, as I'm sure they're glad there wasn't really a house fire to respond to, I think we should all add this to our collective list of reasons Halloween decorations are actually the worst.

Personally, I'd put "wasting emergency resources" right up there on the list between "Halloween decorations are tacky" and "Moms having to explain to their young children why there's a petrified hand sticking out of the neighbor's yard."

(That last reason is definitely at the top of the list if the bitterness in my tone did not make the hierarchy there clear.)

That said, if you still decide to put out realistic decorations for Halloween, maybe give your local fire department a heads-up that your house isn't really on fire.

PS - That skeleton in the yard isn't a murder victim either. Probably.
