We've had the Covid 19 pandemic, the locusts, the murder hornets, the derecho, wild fires, riots in the streets, and even the Bubonic Plague, (and so the list goes, and grows).
Now, reports The Weather Channel, Louisiana livestock are being overtaken by vast swarms of mosquitoes driven out of the swamps in the wake of Hurricane Laura. Hundreds of cows and many horses, deer and the like have already succumbed.
The mosquitoes are so ravenous that they are leaving livestock anemic and exhausted to the point of death as they try to outrun or evade the bloodthirsty hoards.
"They're vicious little suckers," (harsh pun, given the gravity of the situation) said veterinarian Dr. Craig Fontenot.
It's not the first time this has happened. Similar swarms attacked livestock following hurricanes Lili ('02) and Rita ('05). But given the 2020 track record so far, it shouldn't surprise us that the swarms are back.
