This was posted by Natalie Winters, a correspondent with Steven Bannon's War Room show. It's just a simple and hilarious play on the JD Vance meme.
However, Newsweek didn't quite get the tongue-in-cheek post.
Yes, that headline is real.
Given the fact that the image of Trump in the tweet is his official presidential portrait, it could be that the real image of Vance is his own vice-presidential portrait, and the image has been edited to include a meme of him.
The post has been viewed over 1 million times as of reporting and has received many comments from social media users who had originally believed the post to be authentic.
You think that this very obviously photoshopped goofy meme was possibly real? Did you get the forensics guys on this one, Newsweek?
Newsweek also noted that the immediate follow-up tweet from Winters, the top reply to the Vance meme, was this:
Just two minutes apart on the same tweet we have very conclusive evidence that this is a joke. But Newsweek's journalistic heroes are on the case!
What's Next
The post and the subsequent response is reflective of how big the internet trend of memes of Vance have become online. Whether it will continue remains to be seen.
