NHL bans Pride stick tape months after getting rid of Pride jerseys

So apparently some genius thought it'd be a good idea for NHL players to "show their solidarity" with the LGBTQIA2+ community by throwing rainbow tape on their sticks. Unfortunately for the flamboyant person who thought this up, the NHL is not going to do it, and they've in fact banned the tape altogether.

Honestly, who puts rainbow tape, or whatever pattern they're using these days to signify gayness, on their stick? It's black tape or white tape, nothing else. Hockey's a man's sport; none of this gay stuff.

The NHL will not be using Pride Tape this season as the league continues to move away from special initiatives that caused issues among a small group of players — in particular Pride Nights.

In June, commissioner Gary Bettman told Sportsnet that it would no longer allow teams to wear special warmup jerseys after becoming too much of a "distraction."

That now seems to extend to Pride Tape, which players used to show solidarity with LGBTQ+ communities by predominantly wrapping their sticks with it.

Pride Tape media relations representative Jeff McLean confirmed to The Post the league will not use the company's product this season as it moves away from special initiatives and warmup jerseys.

Good.

Hockey is a sport, not a sexuality.
